Craig Reid, president and CEO of Auberge Resorts Collection, told Travel & Leisure, “We are looking forward to seeing the vines grow out over the site and ultimately having our own winery and wines.” Stanly Ranch is a  super mario bros  working ranch. Grapes for chardonnay and pinot noir are being sold to local winemakers from established vineyards. But it’s the younger vines that have the potential to be crushed and fermented into a Stanly Ranch wine in the future, even if they are years away from producing any fruit.

Like the corks at BottleRock every year, Napa’s hotel scene has exploded in the past two years. In Calistoga, just across the street from Solage, Auberge Resorts Collection erected a Four Seasons. Alila, a Luxury Collection hotel by Hyatt, has moved into a refurbished estate in St. Helena that was once known as Las Alcobas and is still home to Acacia House, where you can have what many consider to be the greatest margarita in all of Napa.

Napa’s current hotel boom may be traced back to a single establishment: the 1980s-era Auberge du Soleil, widely regarded as the city’s first luxury hotel. Auberge du Soleil (originally a restaurant, despite the fact that auberge means “inn” in French) changed its focus to serve the growing number of Napa visitors who, upon discovering how much they enjoyed the area’s wine, decided to, well, stay the night rather than drive home. This was in the early 1980s, when the valley’s wine culture was just beginning to gain traction.

In 2020, some 40 years later, a disturbing and seemingly contradictory trend emerged: at the same time that Napa saw an increase in the construction of high-end hotels, the city also had its most disastrous fires. More than 20 wineries were damaged by the Glass Fire, which raged from September 27, 2020, to October 20, 2020, and caused an estimated $100 million in damages to the Michelin three-star restaurant Meadowood and the former Calistoga Ranch, the third Auberge Resorts Collection property in Napa.
