Married couple Patrick and Fasicka Hicks have put their childhood flavors on a plate to bring Tex-Ethiopian barbecue to Arlington, Texas. Fasicka was born in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, and Patrick is a Texas native born in Waco, Texas. They met in 1997, and it was a match made in BBQ Heaven. They started out with a smoker trailer doing BBQ pop-ups on the weekends, which eventually blossomed into their current restaurant business as customer demand for Patrick’s smoked meats steadily grew. With the extra space they gained in moving from a trailer to a brick and mortar restaurant, Fasicka decided it was time to add some of her traditional Ethiopian family favorites to their menu, and the flavors of Ethiopia and Texas gradually started to mingle together to create new dishes, making Smoke’N Ash BBQ the first restaurant in the world to serve what they have named Tex-Ethiopian barbecue.
